The app

What platforms does Familiar run on?
Familiar runs on the web, on iPhone and Android, and on Apple Watch. Your account stays in step across all of them, so you can set your energy on your phone, plan on a big screen, and glance at your timer on your wrist.
Does it work with my calendar?
Yes. Connect your Google Calendar and your events show up in Familiar alongside everything else, so Familiar plans around them. What you plan in Familiar shows up in Google too. You can disconnect at any time, and disconnecting removes everything Familiar brought over.
What does Familiar do on my watch?
The running timer sits on your wrist, along with what’s next. You can start or wrap up a timer, log a glass of water or a meal, log a medication dose with one tap, set your energy and mood, and capture a thought by speaking it, without picking up your phone.
Does Familiar read my health data?
Only if you connect it, and you can turn it off at any time. When it’s on, last night’s sleep is filled in for you to confirm each morning, and if your phone shows you’ve already been moving, the movement nudge stays out of the way. That’s all it’s used for.
Do I have to use all the features?
No. Every feature in Familiar is optional. You can run it with your familiar and the two dials and nothing else, or turn on as much as you like.
Can I change my familiar later?
Yes. Swap it in Settings at any time. Everything you’ve logged stays with you.
Does Familiar use AI?
Mostly, no. Suggestions, scheduling, and insights are worked out by Familiar itself from your own data. The one exception is optional: when you type a sentence into the capture bar, or ask Familiar to shape or split a capture, that one sentence can be sent to an AI service to draft a calendar item or a habit for you to review. A switch in Settings turns that off entirely, and Familiar keeps working with on-device parsing and manual entry. Your journal, habit logs, and mood history are never sent to it. The Privacy Policy names every other service Familiar relies on.
I’m a night owl. I work nights. My schedule changes every week. Does that break anything?
No. Your day in Familiar follows the hours you’ve set, and you can set different hours for different days of the week. Anything you log before your day ends counts toward that day, and your familiar sleeps and wakes on your schedule, whatever it is.
Do I need to have ADHD to use Familiar?
No. Familiar was designed with ADHD in mind, but it isn’t built for one condition. It’s built for days that don’t go the same way every time, whatever the reason.
Will Familiar diagnose anything?
No. Familiar isn’t a medical tool and makes no claims about your health. It’s a companion app.
Does it replace therapy or medication?
No. Familiar is a planning, habit, and wellbeing companion. It sits alongside professional support; it doesn’t stand in for it.

Privacy

Where is my data stored?
In Familiar’s own database, hosted with Supabase. There’s no advertising and no third-party analytics in the app, which is also why there’s no cookie banner. The Privacy Policy lays out the whole picture in plain language: what’s collected, why, and the controls you have.
What about the sensitive stuff: medication, sleep, my journal?
It’s used to run the features you’ve turned on and to show you your own history. It’s never sold, and never shared for anyone else’s purposes. Medication reminders can be marked discreet, so the notification on your lock screen says nothing specific.
Can I export my data?
Yes, from Settings, at any time: a readable copy of your history you can save as a PDF, and a complete machine-readable copy of everything Familiar has stored.
Can I delete my account?
Yes, from Settings. Deleting your account permanently removes your data from Familiar’s systems.

Pricing

Is Familiar free?
It’s free while Familiar is in beta. After launch it will be a paid app, and the details will be announced well before anything changes for the people already using it.
Will there be ads?
No.
